At 44 years old, Tracy Matthews from Lorain, Ohio, faced a life-threatening struggle with obesity. At her heaviest, she weighed 605 pounds (274 kg) and could barely move without pain.
Her weight problems began in childhood. By the age of 11, she already weighed 170 pounds, and by high school graduation she had reached 270 pounds. Each pregnancy added nearly 100 pounds until her health spiraled out of control.
Tracy admits that food was her “safe zone.” Growing up in a home filled with conflict and arguments between her parents, she turned to eating as a way to cope with stress and find comfort.
