It was just another quiet evening when Emma stepped outside to throw away the trash. The courtyard was dull and silent, wrapped in the usual gray calm of the neighborhood.
Nothing seemed unusual—until her eyes landed on something sitting beside the dumpsters.
An old sofa.
At that exact moment, a small truck pulled up. Two men quickly unloaded the worn furniture, dropped it carelessly near the bins, and sped away without even looking back.
Emma watched them leave, puzzled.

The Decision That Changed Everything
The sofa looked rough—torn fabric, scratched legs, faded cushions—but the structure was strong. Solid. Salvageable.
“A little repair,” she thought, “and this could be beautiful again.”
She hesitated only briefly before making a decision that would soon haunt her thoughts.
Struggling with its weight, Emma dragged the sofa all the way to her apartment building and somehow managed to get it inside.
She had no idea what she had just brought home.
Her Husband’s Reaction Said It All
Daniel opened the door and stared in disbelief.
“Please tell me that isn’t from the street.”
Emma smiled calmly.
“Look at the frame. It’s perfect. We’ll fix it—it’ll look brand new.”
Daniel laughed and shook his head.
“Fine. But if anything alive crawls out of it, I’m throwing it back outside immediately.”
They carried it into the living room and decided to start repairs right away.
That’s when things began to feel… strange.

Daniel grabbed his tools and began removing the old upholstery while Emma prepared new fabric nearby.
Staples popped loose one by one.
“This thing is built oddly,” Daniel muttered. “Strong, but messy work.”
He removed the back covering, then moved to the seat cushion. As he peeled away the final layer of fabric, his hands suddenly stopped.
He didn’t move.

Daniel stared at the cash, his expression shifting from shock to worry.

The excitement faded, replaced by fear.
